The 9th Annual Beach to Beach Power Swim
The 9th annual Beach-to-Beach Power Swim, held on May 27, 2012, was a resounding success. Conditions were ideal (clear skies, calm seas and a mild following breeze of about 10 mph) and a record number of swimmers participated (273 registered to swim and 255 entered the water, and safely arrived at their destination). This all contributed to generally faster times and six course records being broken.

Bryson Mays (St. Croix, VI) won the men’s Long Course (3½ mile) race for the third year in a row with a time of 1:10:40, a mere 8 seconds off his course record. Brittney Iverson (Corvallis, OR) set a new course record in the women’s Long Couse at 1:17:37. Tory Lane (St. John, VI) also set a new course record in the men’s Long Course – Assisted division with a time of 1:15:12. And Mindy Mitchner (St. John, VI) won the women’s Long Course – Assisted division with a time of 1:31:42.
New course records were also set by Adena Andrews (Atlanta, GA) in the women’s Short Course (1 mile) - Assisted division with a time of 23:59, Tammy Zitello and Todd Lappi, also both of Atlanta, GA set course records in the women’s and men’s Intermediate Course (2 ¼ mile) – Assisted divisions with times of 54:44 and 52:52, respectively. Finally, the relay team of Nick Dascher, Matthews Mays and Tony Hendricks, (all 13 and 14 year-olds from St. Croix, VI) set a new Long Course Relay record at 1:13:21.
